Junior Golf Program
Our junior golf program at Box Hill Golf Club has three tiers, each level having a corresponding colour to represent the different abilities. In every golf lesson, there will be a skill taught and an assessment made. Our PGA Professionals use these assessments to help measure their improvement over time. At the end of each session, the kids will attempt a skills challenge to assess their current ability and track their ongoing improvement. It will give everyone the knowledge of what coaching and practice will be required to move up to the next level of the junior golf program.
We are constantly striving to improve the quality of the coaching at Box Hill Golf Club and have therefore worked extensively to produce a structured, balanced and accessible set of programs to help improve the prospects for our junior golfers. Our programs are based on skill, not just age. Using a series of measurable skills, each junior will have the chance to progress through the levels as they improve. Each group will focus on the same skills with smaller group sizes, it provides the best opportunity for each and every child to learn, improve and achieve.
The Box Hill junior golf program will mean that there are classes available on different days of the week that will all be coached to the same structure. This allows a greater choice for parents with all the other commitments that kids have. Class sizes will also be restricted to ensure that each child gets the attention they deserve, with each higher group having fewer students. In addition to the set classes, there will also be monthly practise sessions where kids are invited to attend a practise session hosted by a professional followed by some time out on the course.
The Class Structure
There are three levels for the juniors to progress through with the aim of taking them from beginners to playing golf with a handicap. The first group is Green, the next Yellow and the final one Red. The green groups run for just 4 weeks and will focus on introducing kids to some of the basic skills required to play golf. Both Yellow and Red groups will have progressively harder skills to attain and include an ‘on-course’ lesson with each series lasting 7 weeks. Juniors will only be allowed to progress to the next level once all the skills for that series have been achieved to a suitable level. It is expected that most kids will take some time to progress their skills enough to move up to the next level of the junior golf program.

Junior Holiday Program
There will be a junior holiday golf program at Box Hill running through most school holidays aimed at those looking to begin playing or those who have just started. Group holiday coaching usually runs for six hours over the course of three days. It is aimed at beginner or intermediate level for anyone between the ages of 8 and 16. The usual cost for this program is $100 for the week.
Private Junior Coaching
There is always the opportunity to have private golf classes for kids with any of the professional staff here at Box Hill Golf Club. We offer a discounted junior rate of 20% less than standard lesson fees. These lessons are available any day of the week and we cater for all ages.
