The Box Hill Golf Club has an active pre membership plan which caters for young golfers who do not yet meet the minimum age requirement of 12 years this program is called the J Team.
Once a young person has joined the Club and begun to develop their skills they are given every encouragement by way of specialised coaching through the Victorian Golf Association initiatives as well as Club programs.
The most important Club initiative is the opportunity, once they have a Handicap of 18 or less, to be allowed the privilege of playing in the regular competition fields. This privilege in itself is the most significant single aid to a Juniors development as they aspire to play as well as their more senior playing partners (it usually only takes a short time for Junior players to catch up and pass the adults).
After achieving a handicap of nine or less junior Golfers and young players may be invited to join the Talented Junior Golfer program at Box Hill Golf Club. This program not only provides for juniors and young golfers to be exposed to and encouraged (by way of free entry) to significant tournaments at other clubs it also allows for a rebate of up to 80% of annual fees for those admitted.
Any person between the age of 12 and 25 with a handicap 9 or less can apply for admission to this group.
It is through these opportunities which have been ongoing for many years at Box Hill Golf Club means that the talent as professional golfers of Robert Allenby, Brett Dickinson, Jamie Taylor and Andrew Tschudin and current Victorian State Squad member Chris Wood have been fostered and developed.
